Clark Regional Medical Center announces walk-in mammogram program for community; designated as a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center
January 30, 2024
WINCHESTER, Ky. (January 30, 2023) – Clark Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is proud to announce a new concept for breast cancer screenings with its walk-in mammogram program. The facility has also recently been designated as a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®). By awarding facilities this status, ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast MRI and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).
“We are proud of the incredible care teams at Clark Regional who ensure patients receive exceptional care every day,” said Matt Smith, Chief Executive Officer at Clark Regional Medical Center. “The Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center accreditation is a reflection of the high standards we hold for safety and quality and our culture of continual improvement. We are thrilled to announce that Clark Regional Medical Center has expanded our imaging services with the addition of a brand-new mammography machine. This new machine has undergone rigorous inspections and is also certified with the American College of Radiology. With our cutting-edge equipment, we can offer efficient and convenient comprehensive breast screenings. Early detection saves lives, and we are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care for the women in our service area,” says Smith.
With the additional of the second 3D mammography machine, Clark Regional Medical Center is now accepting walk-in screening mammograms. This program shows CRMC’s commitment to cancer screenings and early detection. “We want scheduling a mammogram to be as convenient as possible for women in the communities we serve,” says Sheri Reynolds, Senior Director of Outpatient Services at Clark Regional. “Whether you’ve taken off work for another appointment, or just have availability in your day, scheduling a mammogram should not be a barrier in receiving breast screenings.”
The walk-in mammography program does not replace scheduled mammography appointments. Scheduled appointments are still recommended for women needing a specific time slot. Walk-in patients will be taken back for a screening as quickly as possible, but scheduled patients may still experience shorter wait times. The walk-in appointments are designed for patients needing an initial or annual screening and does not include any additional or diagnostic screening services.
To become a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, the ACR board-certified physicians and medical physicists, conducted peer-review evaluations in each breast imaging modality to determine that Clark Regional Medical Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs. The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 42,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
Clark Regional Medical Center is now welcoming walk-in mammogram patients at its Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, Monday-Friday (8am-3pm). The center is located in the Clark Clinic A building, 225 Hospital Dr., Winchester, KY 40391.
