Network of Central Kentucky Hospitals Partner with Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine To Train Medical Students

Georgetown, KY — August 5, 2024 — Lifepoint Central Kentucky hospitals (Bluegrass Community Hospital, Bourbon Community Hospital, Clark Regional Medical Center and Georgetown Community Hospital) are proud to partner with Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) to host students for clinical rotations. This initiative, a part of LMU’s comprehensive curriculum, is designed to produce skilled physicians proficient in osteopathic principles.

Since the program’s inception in May 2023, the four acute-care facilities across central Kentucky have hosted 26 student doctors. Currently, there are 39 preceptors within the group of hospitals. Cliff Wilson, chief executive officer of Georgetown Community Hospital and market president for Lifepoint Central Kentucky, said, "We are thrilled to welcome LMU-DCOM students once again to our hospitals. LMU’s rigorous four-year DO program is divided into pre-clinical and clinical training phases, which integrates both basic and clinical sciences for students to develop strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills. Established in 2007, LMU-DCOM has graduated over 2,200 doctors, many serving Appalachia and nearby regions.

By accepting LMU-DCOM students for their clinical rotations, the hospitals provide a dynamic and supportive environment where students can enhance their clinical skills and knowledge. This partnership not only benefits the students but also the local community. By hosting medical students in Versailles, Paris, Winchester and Georgetown, it helps ensure a continuous influx of well-trained, compassionate physicians dedicated to improving community health outcomes.
